Bears take ninth at CC championships

 

TIMONIUM, Md. – Pat O’Neill (Ardsley, PA/LaSalle) finished 26th to lead the Ursinus men’s cross country team at the 2005 Centennial Conference (CC) Cross Country Championships at Johns Hopkins on Saturday.

            O’Neill ran the 8.000 meter course 27 minutes, 28 seconds to help the Bears finish with 244 team point and ninth overall. Haverford made it 13-for-13 in men’s team titles, scoring 19 points compared to Dickinson’s 86.

            Liz Brennan (Drexel Hill, PA/Academy of Notre Dame) finished with a time of 24:25 for 35th overall and help the Ursinus women 9th out of 10 teams.

            Dickinson won the women’s side for the sixth straight year with 18 points – 49 points ahead of second-place Haverford.

            Chris DeLeon (Lawrence Harbor, NJ/Old Bridge) finished second on the team, running in 71st.   Kevin Metz (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) followed DeLeon across the line in 73rd overall.

            Joe Szymanski (Bensalem, PA/Bensalem) and Eric Wickersham (Hockessin, DE/St. Mark’s) round out the Bears’ top five.

            Szymanski was 89th (31:31),  while Wickersham was 91st (32:03).

            On the women’s side, Sara McNally (Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) was the second fastest Bear with a 38th-place time of 24:33.

            Stephanie Rogman (Schnecksvill e, PA/Central Catholic) crossed the line in 27:09 for 88th and Lynne Erickson ran in 46th overall in 24:45. Maureen McCarthy (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) ran in 27:39 to round out the Bears’ top five.  
            Ursinus returns to action at the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regionals in two weeks on Nov. 12th at Dickinson. The women run at 11 a.m., and the men follow at 12 p.m.
