Elizabethtown Defeats Susquehanna 3-0 in Commonwealth Conference Semifinal

 

ELIZABETHTOWN , Pa. --- Elizabethtown defeated Susquehanna University 3-0 at home Wednesday night in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Conference playoffs to advance to the conference championship game, which will be played at Messiah College at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5. Messiah also advanced to the conference championship Wednesday night with a 6-0 home win over Lebanon Valley . Elizabethtown is now 14-3-2 overall with the win, while Susquehanna wraps up its season with a 9-8-1 overall record.

            Elizabethtown ’s first goal came with 28 seconds left in the first half as Michael Terry ( Beech Creek , PA / Central Mountain ) scored off an assist by Brian Raveling ( Voorhees , NJ /Eastern Regional).

            The Blue Jays went up 2-0 at 58:27 when Mike Helsel (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) scored off assists by Brian Healy (Newark, DE/A.I. DuPont) and Jeff Boushell (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg). Etown’s final goal came at 67:33 when Andrew Kummerer ( Glenmoore , PA /Coatesville) scored off a Terry assist.

            Etown out-shot Susquehanna 20-7 over the course of the game and held a 10-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Blue Jays also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

            Austin Kelsey ( Benton , PA /Benton) made seven saves in the Susquehanna goal, and A.J. Fleisher ( Kutztown , PA /Kutztown) made six saves for Etown.
