KEEVER SCORES TWICE AS
DIPLOMATS RALLY PAST MUHLENBERG 2-1 IN FIELD HOCKEY
ALLENTOWN, PA -
Eileen Keever (Sr., Prospect Park, PA/Interboro) scored twice, including
the game-winning goal with 15:12 left in the second half, as the #18 Franklin
& Marshall College field hockey team rallied to defeat Muhlenberg College
2-1 in Centennial Conference action.
Muhlenberg (8-9, 3-6 Centennial Conference) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the
game as Jessica Hand put in a second chance on a penalty corner 16:54 into the
game, but the Diplomats (11-5, 5-4 Centennial Conference) knotted the game as
Keever tipped in a pass from Lindsey Mummert (Jr., New Oxford, PA/New
Oxford) on a penalty corner at 27:24 to tie the score prior to halftime.
Franklin & Marshall sealed the win over midway through the second half as
Keever finished a pass from forward Brittany Croll (Sr., Lewes, DE/Indian
River) on a three-on-one breakaway for the game-winning score at the 54:48
mark.
The assist continued a stretch of three games in which Croll has scored six
goals and dished out four assists, including four goals and an assist in an
8-0 win at Bryn Mawr on October 15, to raise her season scoring total to 15
goals and eight assists for 38 points. Further, she now has 51-22-124 in
her career to rank third in career goals at F&M, three shy of surpassing
Laura Kramedas '80 (53) for the all-time lead and two short of passing Sue
Bowen '80 for second place.
In goal, Michelle Altman (Sr., Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) earned the win
making six saves, while Muhlenberg's Lauren Schram made seven saves in taking
the loss.
The win improves F&M to 9-4-1 all-time against the Mules as the Diplomats
have won the past five meetings.
Further, the win keeps the Diplomats locked in a race for a berth in the five
team Centennial Conference playoffs. Currently, F&M is fifth in the
standings with 10 points, while Gettysburg (13-4, 9-1 CC), Ursinus (14-2, 8-0
CC), Johns Hopkins (9-7, 6-3 CC) and McDaniel (9-6, 5-3 CC) round out the top
four teams.
Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on October 29 versus
Swarthmore College at Baker Field in the regular season finale. Match
time is set for 1:00 p.m.
