Diplomats Swim Past Shoremen
Thomas Wins Two Individual Events

CHESTERTOWN, MD - Defending Centennial Conference Champion Franklin &
Marshall defeated host Washington College, 123-78, in Centennial Conference
men's swimming this afternoon at Casey Swim Center. The Diplomats improved
to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in conference meets with the win, while the Shoremen
slipped to 2-2 and 0-2 with the loss.

Sophomore Alex Thomas (Towson, MD/Calvert Hall) won a pair of individual
events for the Shoremen, finishing first in the 200 individual medley in
2:06.27 and in the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.65. Sophomore Brandon Becker
(Jamison, PA/Central Bucks East) won the 200 backstroke in 2:08.70. Becker,
junior Colin Soper (Towson, MD/Loyola Blakefield), Thomas, and freshman Dan
Wentzel (Exton, PA/Henderson) won the 400 medley relay in 3:45.85.

Soper added second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:49.77) and in the
500 freestyle (5:02.57). Wentzel was third in the 50 freestyle (23.25) and
the 100 freestyle (51.69). Freshman Mike Caro (Yorktown, VA/Grafton)
finished third in the 200 butterfly (2:24.50), freshman Kevin Lonergan
(Milford, DE, Milford) was third in the 1000 freestyle (11:17.78), and
freshman Phil Munger (Devon, PA/Conestoga) finished third in the 200
individual medley (2:12.76). Becker, Munger, junior Lars Kalp (Everett,
PA/Mercersburg Academy), and sophomore Eddie Raleigh (Hanover,
PA/Southwestern) were second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:34.86.

The Shoremen return to action November 29th with a non-conference meet at
Widener.
