Michelle Whalen Michelle Whalen is a 17 year old Senior from William Penn High School in New Castle. Michelle is 5'10: and plays volleyball, basketball, and softball for the Colonials. Whalen has started on the varsity basketball team all three years so far and was named captain of the team in her junior year one year after winning a state championship. She was also tri-captain of the volleyball team which ended its season ranked third by Delaware Sports; the farthest that a Colonial volleyball had ever advanced before. Basketball is Michelles true love and is where she has been receiving the most attention for her skills. As a sophomore she was an honorable mention in both the Blue Hen Conference and All-State teams. As a junior, she jumped up to the second team in the Blue Hen, and third team All-State. Michelle also earned a berth on the first team all-conference volleyball team as a junior and received an honorable mention on the all-state. Michelle is a distinguished honor student at William Penn and is ranked in the top five in her class of 400 students. She is a member of the National Honor Society and works with an advanced placement load. Michelle names Michael Jordan, Cynthia Cooper and the Womans National Soccer Team as her sports influences, but naturally credits her parents for supporting and motivating her. Whalens most memorable sports moment of her high school career was winning the basketball state championship against St Elizabeths two years ago. Her favorite saying is "Reach for the moon, because even if you miss you will land amongst the stars.
