Delaware's lone remaining undefeated football team is the Archmere Auks. They cap their perfect season with a 27-0 shutout win over Woodbridge in the Class 2A championship game. Seen here with DIAA director Donna Polk is head coach John Bellace and Kieran Udovich in the middle.
The Auks jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead with Declan Pearson scoring twice on the ground from 5 and 3 yards away. He had 18 carries for 98 yards in the game. From there the Auk defense took over and the offense kept the ball on the ground to keep the clock running as much as possible. Johnny Kim rushed for 100 yards on 4 carries, one of them 81 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Chris Albero scrambled 13 times for 55 yards and he rushed for one TD.
The defense recorded 3 sacks and the special teams unit blocked a punt.
This was Archmere's first championship since 1982.
Middletown beat Smyrna 28-24 to win the Class 3A championship. It was their first since 2012 although they had been to the final 6 times since then.
Laurel beat St. Elizabeth's 28-14 in the Class 1A championship game. This was their first title since 1991.
