Wayne Knight rushed for three touchdowns in the Smyrna Eagles 46-21 win over Dover in the Class 3A semifinals. The Eagles poured on 22 4th-quarter points to blast their way into the championship game where they will take on the winner of the Salesianum-Middletown contest today.
In Class 2A, a second downstate team advances to the championship game as Woodbridge handles Wilmington Friends 24-14. The Blue Raiders held the Quakers scoreless for 3 quarters. They will now play the winner of the Archmere-DMA game.
Laurel is the other downstate team which will await an upstate opponent in the championship game and this is the Class 1A division. The Bulldogs rout Indian River 33-0. They will now play the winner of the St. Elizabeth's- Tatnall game. So three downstate teams advanced yesterday and three upstate teams will advance today to set up the three different state championship games to held next weekend.
Girl's Swimming
Wilmington Friends sweeps MOT Charter 77-41.
The Quaker boys team did the same and won 81-51.
Boy's Basketball
Appoquinimink held off Concord 65-64. Owen Parrish led the Jags with 19 points. He had 4 3-pointers. Julian Harris led the Raiders with 19 points of his own.
Newark beats Great Oaks Charter 54-38. Marquis Warren was high scorer for the Yellowjackets with 13 points.
It was St. Elizabeth's over St. Georges 54-40. Kye Rawls led all scorers with 23 points.
Red Lion beats Sussex Academy 55-38. Michaelson Bernard had 13 points for Sussex Academy.
Tower Hill improves to 2-0 with a 75-50 win over Newark Charter. Dean Sheppard had 24 points to lead the Hillers.
Girl's Basketball
Seaford beats Sussex Academy 45-16. The Blue Jays are now 2-0. Their high scorer's last name was Sissy. She scored 25 points. No roster available for me to check her first name.
Smyrna over Delcastle 58-55. Freshman Kai Burnett led the Eagles with 19 points.
