Polytech High runner Matt Gatune swept the individual distance events at the Henlopen Conference track & field championships. The senior won the 800, 1,600 and 3,2000 meters at the two-day meet. Gatune not only successfully defended his three event wins from a year ago, but he set Henlopen records in both the 3200 with a 9:17 and the 1600 with a 4:19.92. His 1:55.37 in the 800 ranks No. 2 on the Henlopen meet record list as well.
Smyrna High’s Brooke Duke finished fourth or better in four events at the Henlopen Conference track & field championships. The junior won the high jump, took second in the 100 hurdles, was third in the pole vault and fourth in the triple jump.
Caesar Rodney High tennis player Darin Jawahar won the boys’ first-singles title in the Henlopen Conference Tournament on Monday. The senior dropped only two sets all season — both in a season-opening loss to Wilmington Charter.

Girl's Softball State Tournament
Madelyn Pritchard and Madison Fuller combined to throw a no-hitter against Brandywine for William Penn in the first round of the tournament. The Colonials are the #9 seed and they advance to play Caesar Rodney in the second round.
Ashlyn Tapman threw a no-hitter for #17 Delmar against #16 Concord in an 11-0 win for the Wildcats. They advance to take on #1 Caravel in round 2.
Boy's Volleyball
The 5th seeded Indians of Indian River upset the previously unbeaten Salesianum boy's volleyball team in the semi-final round of the Delaware Boy's Volleyball Championship.
They will take on the defending champions from Delaware Military Academy who had to hold off a come-from-behind rally attempt by the Force of Wilmington Charter. The Seawawks won the first two sets and the Force won the 3rd and 4th. DMA wins set five 15-12. All sets were close.
The championship match will take place at Smyrna HS on May 19th at 6:30. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children at the door.
Maddie Schepers from the St. Marks Spartans soccer team scored her 100th career goal this week. Her 100th came in a 3-goal effort against Appoquinimink.
