The DIAA Boy's Basketball Tournament First Round


#17 Laurel beats #16 AI duPont 68-63. The Bulldogs advance to play the #1 seed, Salesianum on Thursday. Javier White led Laurel with 24 points. Marc Handy and Ivan Martin led AI with 19 points each.




Craig Williams led the #21 Riders with 17 points as Caesar Rodney upsets the #12 seed, Archmere. Caesar Rodney will play #5 Sanford next.





#9 Dover over #24 Polytech 83-46. The Senators will play #8 Middletown.






#13 Smyrna over #20 St. George's. The Eagles advance to take on the Howard Wildcats, the #4 seed.




An upset in this rivalry contest in the game featuring the #22 seeded Spartans of St. Marks. They win 41-37 over #11 St. Elizabeth's. The Spartans move on to face #6 William Penn.





#19 Delmar beats #14 Woodbridge 59-54. The Wildcats advance to play #3 Tower Hill. Davin Chandler and Takai Hugee both had 22 points for Delmar.



#10 Seaford 76, #23 Tatnall 62 The Blue Jays of Seaford move on to play #7 Appoquinimink on Thursday after their first-round win 76-62 against the Tatnall Hornets.





#18 St. Andrews 55, #15 Delmarva Christian 54 St. Andrews wins the closest game of the first round with a one-point victory over Delmarva Christian. The 18th seeded Saints get #2 Caravel in the next round. In the game, Delmarva Christian's Dontarius Jones scored his 1000th career point.












Smyrna High wrestler Gabe Giampietro became just the 11th wrestler in state history to win four state titles when he took the state championship at 120 pounds on Saturday. The senior won by pin in all four of his tournament matches, including three first-period falls.





Caesar Rodney High’s Ryan Woodzell medaled twice at the DIAA swimming state championships on Saturday. A junior, Woodzell took second in the 500-Yard Freestyle (4:45.51) and third in the 200-Yard Freestyle (1:44.70).





Sussex Central High swimmer Breyden Wright made it on the podium twice at the DIAA boys’ state finals on Saturday. The junior, who was named the boys’ Outstanding Swimmer at the Henlopen Conference meet two weeks ago, finished second in the 100-Yard Butterfly (50.05) and third in the 100-Yard Backstroke (52.72).
