Field Hockey

In the first round of the state field hockey tournament in Division 2, there were four games yesterday. No surprises in this set of contests. #6 Wilmington Friends beats #11 Brandywine 7-0. Madeline Rowland scored two times for the Quakers. They advance to play Newark Charter on Saturday.

#9 Caravel advances to take on Delmar in the next round after beating #8 Concord 3-1. Senior Alice Pifferi scored two times for the Buccaneers.

Teryn Singer scored two goals for the fifth seeded Hornets of Tatnall. They win big over Delaware Military 7-0. Lydia Colasante had a goal and an assist as well. The Hornets move on to play #4 Sussex Academy on Saturday.
The Quarterfinals for D1 are coming up tomorrow.
Boy's Soccer
The Quarterfinals of the D1 Boy's Soccer tournament are today. Yesterday in the Division 2 first round there were four exciting matches, three of which went to overtime and two of those to penalty kicks.
In the one match that was decided in regular time it was #9 Newark Charter beating #8 Brandywine 1-0. They will take on the top seed, St. Marks in the quarterfinal round.
#12 St. Andrews upsets #5 Delaware Military 4-3 in penalty kicks. They played regulation and two overtime periods to a scoreless tie.
#7 Archmere escapes with a 1-0 overtime win over #10 Sussex Academy. Karol Diaz scored in the 99th minute off a feed from Mark Chua. Nicholas Triantafillou had 6 saves for the Auks. They advance to play #2 Caravel, to whom they lost 4-0 earlier in the season, on Saturday.
#11 Delmar upsets #5 McKean. The game was tied 1-1 after two overtime periods and the Wildcats out shot the Highlanders 9-7 in penalty kicks. They will now play #3 Indian River in the quarterfinals. They lost to the Indians 2-0 during the regular season.
Volleyball

No surprises in the quarterfinal round of the state volleyball tournament.
#2 Padua beats #7 Dover 3 sets to 0. Meghan Peters led the Pandas with 12 kills. Peyton Sullivan had 10 and Audrey Lyons had 32 assists. They move on to the semifinal round to play...

Wilmington Friends who had a tough time with #14 Ursuline needing to go long in the second and deciding sets. Noreen Robinson led the Quakers with 14 kills. Abby Carian had 11 and Natalie Bush had 27 assists. Libero Jocelyn Nathan was real busy defensively for Friends and she recorded 31 digs in the contest. Grace Burns led the Raiders with 18 assists. This leads to a regular-season rematch with the Pandas, whom they beat in 5 sets, late in the year.

#1 St. Marks breezes into the semifinal round in straight sets over #9 Caravel. Brooke Dow and Julia Yurkovich led the Spartans with 10 and 12 kills respectively. Katie Sonchen had 20 assists and Mya Lewis had 19.
