Cross Country


All 7 of Padua's runners finished in the top 15 at the D1 Girl's Cross Country Championship. They take first place at Brandywine Creek State Park. Padua's Mary Dorsey is the individual winner with a time of 20:01 in a cold, driving rain. Sophia Holgado from Padua is 2nd in 20:25. Courtney Candy from Appoquinimink finished 3rd in 21:07




Indian River's Brynn Crandell wins the D2 Girl's Cross Country Championship with a time of 19:37 (a miracle in this weather.) Tiffany Herrera from St. Marks was 2nd in 19:46 and Tatnall's Katie Payne was 3rd in 20:11. St. Marks was the team champion followed by Ursuline and Conrad.


Salesianum wins the D1 team Cross Country State Championship. The Sals Ryan Banko wins the individual title with a time of 16:35. Polytech's Kenneth Guy was 2nd in 17:19 just edging out Cape's Ryan Baker also in 17:19.




Tatnall's Nicolas Pizarro wins the D2 Boy's Cross Country championship in 17:18. In 2nd was Chase Sims from Indian River in 17:26 and in 3rd was Andre Latina from Tatnall. The Hornets win the team title with Conrad second and St. Marks third.








Field Hockey


Lindsay Renshaw assisted on two of Archmere's three goals as the second seeded Auks beat #7 Lake Forest 3-1.



Josie Hollamon scored a hat trick and added an assist. Jordyn Holloman scored twice and so did Maci Bradford for Delmar as the #1 Wildcats blanked Caravel 7-0. Delmar outshot the Bucs 32-0.




#3 Newark Charter and #6 Wilmington Friends went to overtime and it was the Patriots advancing. Mary Catherine Anson scored and Sophia Walch had one goal and an assist. The Patriots will play Archmere in the semi-final round of the D2 tournament.




The other quarterfinal game featured Sussex Academy and Tatnall. It was the Seahawks winning 3-2. They now will move on to face Delmar in the semi-final round. Emma Westbrook's second goal of the game in the 4th quarter was the game winner. Rachael Whitehead scored a goal and assisted on the other for Tatnall. The Hornets trailed 2-0 at the half and tied this game with 9 minutes to go.



Football

Jay Simmons caught two touchdowns, threw for one, and had two interceptions for Mt. Pleasant as the Green Knights beat Milford 41-7. Dahmir Byrd rushed for over 100 yards and two touchdowns in the game.



Sophomore Jyair Townsend scored four touchdowns, 2 rushing and 2 receiving as the Yellowjackets of Newark beat Glasgow 44-6. Markee Ellerbe rushed for 2 touchdowns and scored two 2-point conversions for Newark.



Robby Tatersall went 7 for 14 passing for 139 yards, throwing 2 TDs.

Osi Chukwoucha ran for 139 yards on 9 carries, scoring 4 rushing TDs, and had 1 reception for 17 yards. The Quakers end the regular season 9-1 and prepare to hear who they have in the first round of the playoffs, which are revealed later today.




Gabe Welsh threw for 5 touchdowns as Conrad beats First State Military 42-0. Nate Schurga caught two of them and he also ran one in for a touchdown for the Red Wolves.






Boy's Soccer



Newark Charter, the #9 seed in the D2 Boy's Soccer tournament upsets the #1 seed, the Spartans of St. Marks 2-1. The Patriots win on penalty kicks 4-3 and advance to the semi-final round. It's a perfect example of why no one's opinions about who is going to win or lose matters for even a second.



Mason Ball scored two of Delmar's three goals as the #11 Wildcats upset the #3 seed, Indian River. They move on to the semifinals.



Delmar will take on the top remaining seed, #2 Caravel. The Buccaneers beat Archmere 4-0. Zayn Akhtar scored twice and Zain Akhtar had three assists in the game. Miles Hood had a goal and an assist.



#12 St. Andrews scores another upset in the D2 tournament. This time they beat #4 Wilmington Friends 1-0. William Hurtt is #3 in this picture doing battle with the Quakers Aiden Borst. The Cardinals will now play #9 Newark Charter in the semifinals.
